But, he doesnt have this! So, I thought great birthday gift for the man who has everything. He loves it! He said it is huge in size and can feed an army, but cooks well and can hold anything you plan on cooking from stews to fish to gumbo, etc. Goes from stovetop to oven, and back again. Cleans up great with some hot water and a stiff brush and a little seasoning to keep it rust free. I bought myself one and can hardly wait until it arrives!

(More customer reviews)If you own the Lodge Logic 10-1/4-inch skillet, this cover allows for more versatility. It allows for even heating and dutch oven type use. If you prepare something, and just want to keep it warm, or use it outdoors and need protection. It also will seal in nutrients and flavors because of the tight fit, and also the self-basting spikes. I used another lid in a pinch, but it didnt give me the same cooking results as the Lodge lid. The 3-quart chicken fryer, and 5-quart Dutch oven have the same size lids, and you can interchange those lids, but I found I was using them at the same times often, and needed a seperate lid for my skillet. For the price, it just doesnt make sense not to go ahead and have one.

The 7 Qt. Dutch Oven cover fits the 12" skillet.
The 12" cover is $20.01
The 7 Qt. Dutch Oven w/Spiral Handle is $38.98
If I subtract what I'd spend for the 12" cover the D.O. only costs $18.97 more. That's a huge hunk of iron for a mere $18.97.
I did the same thing by buying the 5 Qt. D.O. because the cover fits my
10 1/4" skillet.

Emerilware Cast Iron 12 Inch Skillet Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this skillet after reading every review here, believing that the negative reviews were probably due to a lack of understanding how to work with cast iron.
At first, I did like the skillet. I took it through my own seasoning process (even though it was pre-seasoned) and was happy with both the appearance and (more importantly) the cooking qualities the first couple of times I used it.
I have been using it 1-2 times daily for the two weeks I've had it. A cast iron skillet is supposed to become better and more seasoned the more you use it. This one, however, is becoming worse. It doesn't heat as evenly as my other cast iron pieces, and no matter how carefully I clean and re-season it (I clean with kosher salt and a lint-free cloth, rinse with hot water, towel-dry then heat-dry it, then re-season with oil), the "seasoning" is becoming more and more uneven.
I had hesitated to buy this skillet since it's made in China and I don't want even the smallest chance that there is lead in this skillet. I should have gone with my hunch because now, more than ever, I'm upset at the idea of unknown elements being in this skillet, especially since the skillet isn't up to par with my other cast iron. I've also heard more and more stories of Emeril cast iron cracking... which I had thought initially due to too-rapid heating or cooking, but now I'm wondering if the Chinese cast iron itself is an inferior compound with sub-par "filler" material.
By point of comparison, four days ago I bought two Lodge 8" skillets. Of course, after my Emeril pre-seasoning experience, I had low expectations. But I was amazed as I gently washed them for the first time and water actually beaded on the surface and rolled right off. I decided to do something bold and daring, and cooked some eggs in the Lodge -- only the second time I cooked with it. Amazingly, those eggs slid right out as if the pan were Teflon -- a minor miracle with cast iron.
I can't return this skillet since I've used it, but I will be buying a Lodge 12" skillet instead. I'd rather waste my money and KNOW that I'm buying a safe, time-tested, made-in-the-USA item from a company with a longstanding reputation. The Lodge skillet is much less expensive, yet worth so much more... the superior pre-seasoning and the highly reputable manufacturer make Lodge the better deal even if it were higher-priced. Sorry, Emeril, but my vote is with Lodge.

(More customer reviews)This is a very robust piece of cookware. I give it a 3 star because realistically, you'll only be able to use one side, so pick which one you will want to use and stick to it. The reason is, once you've got one side all good and seasoned, when you flip it to use the other side, that seasoning you worked hard to get will warp and you have to start over; Also, whatever you cook on the other side will taste like stove burner because that's where it's been all this time!

The large size is fantastic, though it's definitely heavy. My arm muscles are getting a workout! I'm glad I got it pre-seasoned, since that was one less thing to hassle with. I have found that cooking with cast iron makes food taste better. Kind of surprsing. I'm not sure why this has been the case, but my husband and I have both noticed it. I have to say though, it is very different than cooking with a regular teflon pan. At first I kept burning everything. Cast iron gets very hot and maintains a steady hot temperature. I'm finding that I'm basically cooking everything in this pan on med-low heat, where I would have used medium heat. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase though and plan on getting a couple more cast iron pans

(More customer reviews)The same thing happened to me using this product as happened to the previous reviewer. For all the quality products Lodge makes, this one is garbage. I learned that the hard way when the handle came unlocked as I emptied hot french fries out of it. The fries came within centimeters of scalding my hand. And I couldn't believe the catch was not wide enough to rest on the side of the very dutch oven for which it was designed! I'm going to get a basket whose handle does not fold into the basket for easy storage. I'll take the loss of a little more storage space over a trip to the burn unit any day. If I can find the receipt this one is going back. Problem is I think I threw it away. Aaarrgghh!

Lodge Logic L8SGP3 Pre-Seasoned Square Grill Pan Review

(More customer reviews)It's cast iron, so you can run this pan as hot as you dare to sear the flavor in. Makes excellent burgers and brats, with nice grill marks but no burned spots, even when well-done. Try that with a George Foreman and your burger will be black outside and dryer than the Mojave Desert inside.
The square pan provides plenty of room to fry up a few burgers and the hot juices in the bottom are made-to-order for sauteeing a few mushrooms, onions, or peppers to go on top. The handle is fatter than older Lodge designs and quite ergonomic as long as you're wearing an oven mitt. Cleans nicely by boiling a little water in the pan and giving it a quick scrub with a stiff round natural-bristle vegetable brush and the hottest water that'll come out of the tap.
I would recommend this pan over the 11.5" one Lodge also offers because the thicker bottom, smaller sides, and deeper walls of the 10.5" pan provide fairly even heat over the entire grill surface. It appears that the 11.5" pan is based on the griddle of the same size, and my 11.5" griddle is hot near the center and cooler near the edges when used on a burner - OK for hash browns, but bad for burgers, grilled cheese, and such.
Excellent product; if you can't grill outside, this pan is the next best thing!

(More customer reviews)I'll keep this short and sweet; this is Lodge Logic's 3-qt. chicken fryer, without the lid. (Amazon says the chicken fryer is 4" deep, but Lodge's web site confirms both are 3" deep).
So... if you already have a 10" lid, don't need another one and want this style pot, this is a good value.
It has all the great traits you expect of Lodge Logic - excellent, even heat transmission, natural non-stick seasoning, and complete invulnerability to anything your burners can dish out. The size is very handy for things like chili for one or two, where the additional depth is welcome but a Dutch oven would be overkill, and the 10" skillet/chicken fryer/Dutch oven lid fits this pot. I'm very pleased with this deep skillet and already had a lid.
So... if you have a Lodge lid and/or have a 5-qt Dutch oven in the same order, go for this pan! If you want to get a lid with it, get the Lodge Logic chicken fryer; it's much cheaper than buying the deep skillet and lid separately.

(More customer reviews)I own three pieces of cast iron cookware, and this item is one of them... and among my favorite cooking implements, period. For dishes requiring steady, even heat and for cooks who require durable cookware with easy clean-up, cast iron CANNOT be beat!
This fryer is going to last forever. Its care is easy: I scrub it with hot water only, and dry it with an old rag and apply a thin layer of vegetable oil while the iron is still hot... a year and a half later, it's still rust-free and delivering the reliable service I have come to expect and admire. No scratches interfere with its performance, as is the case with my allegedly-long-lasting Wearever nonstick cookware set (what a waste of money THAT was!). In fact, in this particular chicken fryer, I've produced everything from french fries to spaghetti sauce to eggs and bacon to french toast! It's a dependable griddle, skillet, grill, and pot, and it goes right from the stovetop and into the oven for maximum versatility.
The best thing about the chicken fryer is its somewhat smaller circumference than the skillet or the Dutch oven. It takes up a bit less stovetop space and provides greater depth, making it ideal for small batches of soups, stews, or deep-fried goodies.
I am an avid home-chef, and I can say without exception that my cast-iron cookware is the best kitchen investment I've ever made.
