(More customer reviews)When I bought the first one, I used the pkg instructions to check it out with a pot of boiling water, to be sure it would indicate 212° - it wouldn't go above 190° (my 2 candy thermometers registered 212°). So I called their 800 number to request a replacement. Got a recording (4PM EST on weekday) saying their hours are 8-5, call a 617 (MS) number. That recording continues to run 24/7 - nobody ever answers the phone. I called the 617 number and "Joe" told me to put the thermometer in a 350° oven. (My oven thermostat is in perfect calibration with my oven thermometer.) This thermometer indicated 310° - not 350°. Called the 617 number back and they sent a replacement. Same problem with it, only this one doesn't even show 190° with boiling water. I just tossed them both - will never again buy anything made by Bayou Classic. Hope somebody who's trying to fry a turkey doesn't get burned by overheated oil while waiting for this thermometer to get to the desired temp.

(More customer reviews)This item is not solid cast iron . whatever metal they used to cover it looks like it but easily scrathes off revealing the aluminum. Not safe at all since you will injest metal pieces with your food.
It even warns you that it does not need to be treated like cast Iron and that it is aluminum on a piece of paper they stick inside the pot.
Mine arrived heavily scratched and appeared used.
The french fry machine that came with it will shoot your potatoes across the kitchen.
The onion mum spice mix contains MSGIt is too heavy to ship back, it got chucked in the trash the first day I got it as it cannot even be used for a flower pot.
I would not feed a pet water from this thing.

King Kooker 60-Quart Aluminum Boiling Pot Review

The KK-60 is a heavy-duty aluminum version that is well-made, has a nice-fitting lid, and heavy-duty riveted handles. The included boiling basket is also ideal for large seafood boils and frying very large turkeys. At last inquiry, King Kooker does not make a steamer plate for this pot, so for steaming crabs, you'll need to raise the included basket a few inches with either stainless steel carriage bolts or some other kind of spacer (there's plenty of room under the lid).
Aluminum pots used for steaming crabs will pit eventually due to the salt, so to prolong its life, you'll want to wash it immediately after each use. In the long run, a stainless version like the Bayou Classic 1060, 60-Qt. Stainless Fryer/Steamer with Vented Lid is the way to go, and I've seen the Bayou Classic sold with and without a basket. This King Kooker does do a fine job at a reasonable price; and it's of course lighter in weight.
I have seen two versions of the KK-60 sold locally that were both 60 quarts but were slightly different dimensions. The photo shown above is actually a much smaller (15qt?) pot.

Since water boils at 212 degrees F (except at higher elevations) you can determine the thermometer's accuracy by placing it in water that's just beginning to boil. Mine reads about 195 in boiling water, therefore I know to add approximately 15 degrees to get an accurate reading of what I'm cooking. I also use it to monitor the temperature on my grill.

I am very safety minded and the thought of all that peanut oil at a high temperature and the open flame, well I just cant bring myself to buy one. I did, however purchase the Char-Broil Big Easy Oil-Less Infrared Turkey Fryer. So far in three weeks I have cooked three turkeys. Since I have never used a real deep fat turkey frier, the operational part of my review of the product is a bit one-sided. I can say that of all the appliances that have more than 2 moving parts, the ease of operation of the Big Easy is just that. Big and easy. The three turkeys I have cooked in the cooker were just under 12 pounds. The first was rubbed with olive oil, it was delicous and moist but a bit dark on the outside. The subsequent 2 were rubbed with peanut oil and had a better complection, but were just as moist and flavourful. I did experience a bit of overcooking of the drumsticks and wings. I believe that this could be cured by sheilding them with some aluminium foil (that will be my next experiment). I have yet to cook anything but turkeys, when I do though, I will make an addendum to this review. All in all, I am pleased with the product and highly praise its ease of use and safety in producing a nice fried turkey. My son is a proffesional Chef and agrees that my terminology is correct, oil has been used and as he states, "technically Dad, it is fried, but not deep fat fried" Thats ok by me.

I would highly recommend Bayou Classic brand for the following reasons: 1. The pot comes with a basket as well as a turkey rack. 2. It comes already assembled, except for the regulator. 3. It's much more sturdy and the welds that hold it together appear to be more durable.
As for the timer that goes off after 15 minutes, you're not supposed to leave a turkey fryer unattended anyway. But I'm giving it a low review because it's very cheaply made and the burner snapped right off.

*CON-The product description for the single tank Adcraft fryer states the "Temp Control switch from 120-375." FACT-The Temp Control switch only goes up to 370.
*CON-The product description states this fryer will get up to 375 degrees.
FACT-Using a temperature gauge,I found this fryer only gets up to 350 degrees.
CON-The fry basket comes with a detachable handle.Not a safe thing when working around hot oil.
I had the handle of my fry basket welded on at a local welding shop.
PRO-The ONLY pro I found with this fryer is that it comes apart easily for cleaning.
*NOTE:Since I wrote the my original review in 2010, which then the product description stated "Temp Control switch from 120-375." It appears now that the product description has been rewritten to say "Thermostatically controlled to 375° F (190° C)" instead.
UPDATE-1/12/2011- Other owners of this fryer I've talked to report their fryer also only get's up to 350 degrees.Foods like chicken,french fries and onion rings do fine being fried at 350 degrees.But when frying beef items, beef is best when fried at 375 degrees.Beef is gummy when fried at 350 degrees.I always (and I recommend) use a tempature gauge with this fryer to always know the exact tempature of the oil.I brought my fryer for home use,with that said,since this is a commerical fryer, it's sturdier and bigger than fryers strickly for home use while still only needing a regular residential wall outlet.The bigger size means I can fry descent size portions for up to 3 to 4 people at one time.

(More customer reviews)I retired my turkey fryer after the last tailgate season. It was costing me almost $25 in peanut oil every time I used it to fry our regular tailgate food (pizza rolls, wings, tenders, fries, etc.). I only used it for turkeys once a year on special occasions.
Anyway I got this as a replacement. It's definitely cut down on my oil costs a lot and I'm still able to get plenty of food cooked in here. My only real problem so far has been that it's tough to reduce the heat w/o losing the flame completely since I can't see the flame through the guard. So I keep it on and the oil gets a little too hot if I don't pay close attention. I don't mind too much though since the guard seems to be letting me light the flame a little easier on the coast of Lake Erie than I could with my previous fryer.

(More customer reviews)I got mine at Bass Pro Shops and was excited. Fried one turkey successfully and brought it to my job for their dinner. But when I came back an hour later after I let the unit cool down, I attempted to cook my family's turkey and it didn't work. It took 2 hours to get it working pressing the reset button on the back of the heating unit at least 100 times!. When I finally did get it working, I went back to check on it 20 minutes later and it turned off. I had to give the heating unit a pretty firm tap and then it turned on! Completely inconsistent!
Cleaning the unit was a breeze, even the heating unit which collected most of the grease residue and can't be submerged in water. Everything else I placed in the dishwasher.
The oil drained well and very clean for use again.
It really is a great idea but they need to solve the issue with the heating unit not working. It shouldn't be so sensitive to movement which is what I gathered was the problem.
And worse? Their customer support number was closed on Thanksgiving. Don't brand this Butterball, if you're not going to be available on Turkey day.

For the money it does an okay job of doing nothing more than cooking your turkey and collecting the drippings. All in all, only buy this product if you want to make room in your oven or grill to cook somthing else at the same time. One good thing about this fryer though is the wood chip tray for smoking. It seems to impart good smoke into the meat. Perhaps this fryer will work better as a low temp smoker. Will try that next. So, in short, if you are looking for that deep fried crispiness and look...this won't give you that.

I ordered this model number (#9195) on February 9th 2010 from Amazon, it was just delivered today (February 16, 2010). The one I received does NOT match the "Product Features" description. According to Amazon.com's product listing the model #9195 is supposed to have the 20 PSI regulator and a 48" hose. However! The box I received says it's the #9195 model number BUT the features listed on the box don't match this product listing here! The #9195 I received says it includes a 10 PSI regulator and 36" hose. I just added an image to the customer images on this product for you all to see.
There is a difference though it may seem small! A 20 PSI regulator gives more control over the flame on the burner, and obviously a 48" hose is well... longer than a 36" hose! I'm impatiently waiting for Amazon to correct this. I'm crossing my fingers they send the one that actually matches the "product features" listed here. I will update you all with the results when I get them.**UPDATE February 19, 2010**
Amazon has once again, screwed up my order on this product. I ordered this way in advance so that I could have it by today. They attempted to exchange it for the correct one... and lone behold, the one they rushed to correct the mix-up was not only sent directly from Amazon's Returns Center instead of Bayou directly like it was the first time... but it was also a cheaper model!! A model that was nearly half the price I paid at the time for the model #9195 (which was a hundred seventy six dollars!). So since no retailers near me sell these in stock (which is why I purchased it here in the first place). I got stuck having to use the one they sent me as a "correction" which was an older and much cheaper model, which it too was a 10PSI regulator and 36" hose ... because there was no way they'd be able to correct it in time for today AGAIN. They issued me a refund of the difference in cost for the one I ended up needing to keep. I also, have since looked up the model #9195 from Bayou's company catalog online and sure enough Amazon has the wrong product description for this model number!! So BUYER BEWARE EVERYONE! In all my years doing business with Amazon.com this is the first time I've had them screw up this royally. However, they will still have my business because the customer service to resolve this issue was great--even though, I had to Google to get their direct customer service number (1-800-201-7575)!**UPDATE March 3, 2010**
I can't help but laugh now. Amazon temporarily made this item unavailable for ordering while waiting to process my return but since my return was received they have now made the item available again through them.... and Amazon has still NOT updated the product description on this item! So everyone PLEASE BE AWARE this fryer set does NOT include a 20 PSI regulator or 48 inch hose! To everyone that orders it, and it doesn't match the product description--I encourage you to call and complain! Get a discount for false advertisement! Perhaps if they get enough complaints they'll get smart and finally correct their incorrect product description!**UPDATE December 18, 2010**
Looks like enough of you took my advice and complained to Amazon for the incorrect product description! Because the product description now FINALLY reflects the correct description! So thank you all for reading my review and for taking my advice! Aside from the ordering problems I had, Bayou turkey frying kits are great for home-brewing beer. If you're getting a Bayou kit for home brewing I highly recommend getting a Stainless Steel kit, as using an Aluminum pot will mess with the flavor and quality of your brew.

(More customer reviews)We have been "Deep Frying" turkeys in oil for nearly two decades and I must say that the "Big Easy" is an AWESOME piece of equipment!
We received a call from a friend in Cajun country and he told us that we should buy the Big Easy. We bought it from Amazon back in Feb 2008. We did not use the fryer until yesterday, for Thanksgiving. We were shocked! It was easy to use and there is hardly anything to clean up . If you follow the directions, you will not go wrong. Before we used the fryer, I went to the Charbroil site and read the tips and updated information concerning the fryer.
You only have to do this the first time you use the fryer:
1. After you put the fryer together, DO NOT put anything in the fryer other than the basket and turn on the fryer for 15 minutes.
2. After the fryer has cooled, spray Pam in the fryer, place the basket in the fryer and turn on the fryer for 10 mins.
3. After the fryer has cooled, put some olive or peanut oil on a paper towel and rub the oil on the basket. Place your season turkey in the basket and turn on the fryer. Make sure the turkey legs are pointing down or resting in the bottom of the basket and keep the metal brace that keeps the turkey legs together intact.
** Each time the fryer is used, repeat step three (Oiling the basket).** Tip:
If you cover the turkey with olive oil, the turkey will darken so if you like the blacken turkey or dark turkey, coat the turkey with oil. Do not put oil on the wing tips because the tip will burn quicker. If you use olive oil, do not place the cover on the fryer and in fact you really don't need to put the lid on at all. I did not put oil on the back of the turkey just to compare the color of the turkey. You don't need to put oil on the turkey because the turkey will have a pretty brown color without the oil.
Pull the skin back from the breast, place the season under the skin (Dried & Fresh), garlic, onion, etc use your imagination. Pull the skin back in place and season the inside of the turkey. While the turkey is in the basket, I placed half a lemon in the top of the turkey along with fresh rosemary, mint etc.
The garlic did not get mushy as it retained its shape but it was easy to smash. I smashed it with two fingers, placed it on top of the turkey and ate it. It was heavenly! The lemon came out juicy so I squeezed the lemon on the turkey. It was good! The lemon nor the spices did not over power the turkey as it gave a good flavor. The next time I think I will juice the lemon, puree the seasons and rub the turkey inside and out as well as place more whole garlic cloves in the turkey. The season does not burn.
On Thanksgiving, we fried two turkeys, one with oil and one with the Big Easy. The skin was crisp as you cannot tell the difference between the oil fried turkey and the Big Easy turkey. In fact, the white meat held more moisture than the deep fried turkey. We compared the two and the Big Easy won hands down. The Big Easy is healthier than the oil fried turkey. The juice pan collected the drippings, we chilled the drippings, removed the fat so it can be frozen in cubes for a later day. The turkey did not stick to the basket. When you purchase the Big Easy, the savings from not having to buy peanut oil is something that you do not have to buy.
Charbroil has accessories for the Big Easy at their website. I recommend the Big Easy and FOLLOW the direction!

Worked very well first time out of the gate.
Cooked a 13.7lb turkey in the minium time.
Seems well built and thought out.
I prefer an electric fryer to a gas one for reasons of safety and that it can be used inside.
I owned an earlier Masterbuilt that worked well but failed after only a few Thanksgivings.
The main reason I gave this one a 4 instead of 5 star is that, to me, the jury's out on the reliability.
Still, the first one worked well enough to give them a second chance.
Right now, this one's working great.
