DeLonghi D650UX Cool Touch Deluxe Deep Fryer Review

For $50 you can't beat this as a basic fryer, especially if purchasing for a smaller household. The capacity is enough to cook for 2 or 3 at a time, the unit is well-designed and solidly built, and even though it lacks a temperature control it heats the oil to 375 degrees (I checked with a cooking thermometer) which is what most recipes seem to recommend. The filter system works well to contain odors and the drainage tube makes cleaning a breeze. The only issue I've had is that it's hard to avoid condensation on the viewing window, but that's no big deal. Highly recommended.

Very high quality product (all stainless, including stand and burner). Simple straightforward design. Easy to use. Comes with everything you might need, including a thermometer for oil/water. Can be used for many things other than turkey deep fry. Who wants a unifuntion piece of equipment? Steamer/boiling basket for veggies, shrimp, whatever. Plenty big for crab boil, crawdads, etc. Worth the cost. As they say, you get what you pay for, in this case even more.

Waring Pro DF100 Cool-Touch 3/4-Gallon Deep Fryer, Black with Stainless Accents Review

Waring Pro DF100 Cool-Touch 3/4-Gallon Deep Fryer, Black with Stainless Accents
Average Reviews:

I bought this to replace an old, cheap deep fryer that was encrusted in old oil deposits. I chose the Waring because it has an immersed heating element (which reportedly should better maintain the high heat necessary to produce crisp fried foods), looked compact, and fit the modern black & stainless steel theme of my kitchen. I also liked the professional-looking buttons, the reported ease of cleaning, and the trusted Waring brand.
Overall, I am quite pleased with the fryer. But let's start with the negatives. The most annoying thing is that it does not have a charcoal filter. I knew this going in, but didn't think that would be important--I thought these are a gimmicky ploy to make extra money on people who want to replace them periodically. Well it turns out I was wrong. My last fryer had one, and even though I never replaced it, it still helped to substantially cut down on that fast-food-place-oily smell when cooking. While this fryer has a built-in wire mesh filter, it really does nothing to reduce the smell, probably because it is not fine enough. As a result, every time I use the fryer, most of my 2-bedroom duplex apartment smells like a fast-food restaurant. This smell tends to linger in the air and in fabrics like clothing and drapes. I started cracking open my kitchen windows, but this only helped a little bit, and it's too cold to do that all the time! The smell is not the end of the world though, as it does eventually dissipate, sometimes as late as a day later (I should mention I have a sensitive nose). The exhaust fan in my apartment kitchen doesn't ventilate to outside the building but I suspect if it did, this would help.
Another much more minor negative aspect is that the black plastic is not as glossy as it looks in the picture. It is a thick, matte finish that actually looks and feels a bit cheap next to the sleek stainless steel. This is simply an aesthetic complaint--apart from a scratch that I somehow caused by rubbing a wire cooling rack against it, I have had no problems with the integrity of the construction. On the plus side, it is thick and keeps the unit cool to the touch.
Now on to the positives. The unit is nicely compact and a tidy cube-like shape, with no protruding parts to clutter the look or make storage difficult. The stainless steel is good quality, and the window on top is thick glass, not Plexiglas. The buttons have a cool retro professional look to them. The best part is the inside. There is a removable stainless steel bowl that is very simple to remove and wash, even in the dishwasher. I love this feature! Other fryers I have used in the past have been a nightmare to clean because you have to tip the entire clumsy unit to dump the oil, and then wash it under a sink, which always made me nervous because I was afraid some water would get inside and damage it. This unit alleviates that problem--you simply remove the frying basket, slide out the heating element, and then you have access to the bowl.
The handle is well-designed. It has a locked up position when the basket is elevated (to fill with food), and then a down position that drops the food into the oil. Just make sure to close the lid before you drop the basket because otherwise you may get scalded with very hot steam like I did once! The magnetic power cord is a cool safety feature and works great. It does come out easily (that's the point) and I have read reports about people not liking these because of that fact. However this has never happened to me, probably because the outlet I plug it into is just a foot behind the fryer.
The cooking ability of the fryer is good. I was hoping to be amazed because of the immersed heating element but I wasn't--it's pretty similar to my last machine (a Rival I think) which didn't have an immersed element. The foods (primarily french fries) do not appear to come out consistently crispier. I'm confused by this though because with both this and my last fryer, the results have been variable. Sometimes the fries come out pretty crispy and sometimes not. The only thing I can think of is that length of cooking and potato quality may be factors. Regardless, the fries have always tasted good and the basket size is perfect for my household of 2. I should mention that I never use the timer because I prefer to eyeball it.
To summarize, I'd recommend this unit to small households who are interested in sleek looks and/or are tight on space, but can tolerate the fried oil smell OR who have a good ventilation system in their kitchen (e.g., place it under an exhaust fan) to manage it.

DeLonghi D895UX Cool-Touch ROTO Electric 1-1/2-Pound-Capacity Food Fryer Review

This is a great little fryer, but because of its limited capacity, it would be difficult to use for a family more than 2, in my opinion. The fryer works fantastic and I only have one complaint. There is an area on the rear of the fryer that collects oil and is difficult to clean. Imagine opening the lid and having all the moisture run to the back hinge of the lid. The oil that collects doesn't get into the rear hinge, but it collects in a small crevice that should be easier to clean. It's a small nuicance though since the fryer really works great; it wouldn't prevent me from purchasing it again. Also, the top does detach from the base which makes it very easy to clean, I just throw it in the dishwasher after I clean around the rubber seal. You can also throw the basket into the dishwasher and it comes out looking great as well.
This is in regards to the reviewer who said the fryer has poor performace with battered foods. If you put your battered items in the basket and then drop it in the oil and don't stir it, then yes, you will have a mess as he says... However, this is easily worked around with one of two methods...
1. In order to cook battered foods successfully, you need to drop the basket in the oil first, and then place/wade your battered foods in the oil. This may sound a little dangerous, but if you're gentle, it's no problem at all. Emeril uses this method all the time on his show when he is frying a battered item. I've done it many, many times and have never had a problem, and I batter A LOT of foods. Now, with this process they will still stick to the wire basket as he mentions, but it is MUCH less. Once the item is in the oil you can use steel tongs to move it a bit to keep it from sticking. As long as you do this in the first few seconds, it won't stick at all and the rest of the frying goes flawlessly. If it sounds hard or like a lot of work, it isn't; it's actually quite easy. I batter shrimp, veggies, & oysters, and even though they do get a little stuck sometimes, it's nothing major, and it certainly does not "destroy" the food as he mentions.
2. The other method that I've used a lot is to not use the basket at all. Sometimes when I want to make a Blooming Onion I will need to remove the basket so that I have enough depth to the fryer so the oil with cover the onion. I am able to fry a medium onion that is battered, but it is a tight fit. In order to get the onion out, I use an "All-Clad Stainless Skimmer" that I bought here on Amazon. It works perfectly for fishing stuff out of the oil when you're not using the basket, but any similar device that isn't flimsy would work well too.
One other thing regarding the oil. If you've never purchased large quantities of oil in the grocery store, look to see the prices...it tends to get expensive very quickly. Before I purchased this fryer, I read the reviews about it saving oil and how great that was. Well... that wasn't a big selling point for me at the time, but now, whenever I have to fill up my fryer and buy more oil, it's the feature that I love most. I really does save A LOT of oil. You can even drain the oil into the included container and put it in the refrigerator to reuse later on.
-------4 years of use update--------
I can't believe I've been using this fryer for 4 years! Now that I look back on this purchase, I can firmly say that I'm a VERY satisfied customer. The fryer still performs flawlessly, and it continues to see a lot of use. It's really a well-built unit, unlike some of the less-expensive models I've seen. I had some friends that wanted to buy a fryer after they saw what things I was able to cook in mine. They didn't want to pay the price for this fryer, so instead they purchased a less-expensive model. Well, the one they ended up getting was less money, but it broke after about 18 months; they are now on their second fryer. So, not only have they now spent more on fryers, but they also spend more on oil because their model does not have a tilted basket.

Deni 9301 Mini 840-Watt 1-1/4-Quart Stainless-Steel Deep Fryer Review

Deni 9301 Mini 840-Watt 1-1/4-Quart Stainless-Steel Deep Fryer
Average Reviews:

The Deni 9301 Mini fryer sorta works but not really.
On the plus side, the product is nicely styled, compact, has an adjustable thermostat, heating indicator light, fry basket, lid that can be placed on the oil tank while the fryer is still hot, and after a fasion it does function as a deep fryer for one or two people.
On the minus side, the thermostat only goes to 375 degrees which is not hot enough for crisp frying. The fryer is very lightly built so there is not enough mass in the oil tank to hold the heat when you emerse food in the oil. If you emerse a half basket of frozen french fries at an oil temperature of 375 degrees, the oil temperature will quickly drop to around 250 degrees and not recover much beyond 300 degrees before the fries are done. This results in soggy french fries. The fryer is slow to recover oil temperature between frying batches which makes cooking a second batch of something a protracted event. The handle on the fry basket has to be removed for storage rather than just folded. The oil will not pour out of the fryer without dripping because of the design of the oil tank lip.
Overall I would rate the Deni 9301 as a step in the right direction but it is in need of significant redesign to make it an effective product for its intended use. I wish I still had my 26 year old Oster mini fryer that finally gave up the ghost after many years of faithful service. The Oster was a far better product than the Deni 9301. Given how lightly the Deni 9301 mini fryer is built, I seriouly doubt it will be around very long. In good faith, I cannot recommend this product to anyone. The Deni 9301 is an improvement over nothing but it does not perform its intended mission very well.

Enjoy restaurant-quality French fries, onion rings, and other fried foods at home with this 840-watt deep fryer. The appliance holds 4-1/4 cups of oil and 1-1/4 quarts of fresh food, while its cool-touch lid provides a viewing window for monitoring the cooking process. Other highlights include an adjustable thermostat, a "ready" indicator light, cool-touch handles, and brushed stainless-steel housing that nicely complements most kitchen decors. Best of all, its special filter reduces the odors that often accompany the frying process. Accessories include a fry basket, a breakaway magnetic cord for safety, and a user guide. The deep fryer measures 10-3/4 by 10-3/4 by 9-1/4 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
