(More customer reviews)I have had this deep fryer in the past, tried two others since and have kept going back to this one. I like the Grandpappy size because I can fry a lot or little at one time. It frys evenly, even when it gets the flour at the bottom, and it is so easy to clean and use. I have given away my fancy ones for this down to earth "best of the best" fryers. Thank goodness I was able to find it on Amazon after the one I used for a zillion years lost most of its coating and I decided to retire it. It was still cooking even, though, just decided it was time for me to get a new one in case I couldn't find one in the future if it ever gave out!

NOT a turkey fryer. It even says right on the box: NOT FOR TURKEYS. So, how is it as a fryer? It does the trick. Nothing special. The instructions are very confusing and difficult to follow. They are for two different fryers. The metal ring at the bottom that came with my fryer must be for the other model. The holes to screw it in would not align. Since I needed this item for a party, I used it anyway and just put the ring inside for support of the legs. If I had bought this locally, I would have returned it for those reasons.

It is quite thick and I can pour 7 gallons of homebrew from the pot to the fermenter without any bending. The lid is nice and sturdy and I would definitely buy this again. I bought it for $75 with free shipping from Amazon. You can't beat that deal. The rivet holes for the handles leaked the first time I brewed in it but haven't leaked since then. I have used it for 5 brews and 2 corn roasts. Great pot!

(More customer reviews)Before purchasing this pot, or any other stockpot for that matter, you need to determine your primary purpose for the pot. Steaming or boiling. The basket sits two inches or so off the bottom of the pot which makes this pot excellent for steaming. If you are mostly going to boil then you should look for a pot where the basket sits closer to the bottom. That gives you more room to boil. This pot is very attractive and cleans up easily. The only drawback is that the handles are too close to the sides and top of the pot. It makes it difficult to carry for people with average to large hands.

I used it on my stove's 16,000 BTU burner, but that has not been a problem for my other cookware. The fried chicken it produced was good, but I'm sure this pot can't stand up to heavy use. Buy it only for occasional use. If you plan to fry alot, buy a basket for your dutch oven or buy a commercial aluminum fry bottom/basket.

(More customer reviews)I have this exact stir fry pan (same line, same model) that I've used for over a decade. I bought it at a Williams-Sonoma scratch and dent sale ages ago as it had a tiny nick in the handle. It has, however, served me exceptionally well, has a nice, rounded surface, and has been excellent for stir-frying.
A former roommate, however, put it in the dishwasher once, and it looks terrible on the outside, so I was tempted by the price here to purchase another one.
The new one is nothing like the one I had before. The one I had was made in Colorado, has a nice, rounded cooking surface inside, and is heavy and strong construction. The new one is thinner, has a flat-bottom cooking surface, and is made in China. It feels flimsier from the handle to the bowl. It cooks 'okay.' Had I started with this one, I likely wouldn't have bought another, as it's just not the sort of product that is liable to hold up with the kind of wear through which I put my pots and pans.
That said, it's not a terrible pan. It's a sight better than the cheapo pans one often starts out with. It's just not as good as I was expecting from my previous experience.

I am very safety minded and the thought of all that peanut oil at a high temperature and the open flame, well I just cant bring myself to buy one. I did, however purchase the Char-Broil Big Easy Oil-Less Infrared Turkey Fryer. So far in three weeks I have cooked three turkeys. Since I have never used a real deep fat turkey frier, the operational part of my review of the product is a bit one-sided. I can say that of all the appliances that have more than 2 moving parts, the ease of operation of the Big Easy is just that. Big and easy. The three turkeys I have cooked in the cooker were just under 12 pounds. The first was rubbed with olive oil, it was delicous and moist but a bit dark on the outside. The subsequent 2 were rubbed with peanut oil and had a better complection, but were just as moist and flavourful. I did experience a bit of overcooking of the drumsticks and wings. I believe that this could be cured by sheilding them with some aluminium foil (that will be my next experiment). I have yet to cook anything but turkeys, when I do though, I will make an addendum to this review. All in all, I am pleased with the product and highly praise its ease of use and safety in producing a nice fried turkey. My son is a proffesional Chef and agrees that my terminology is correct, oil has been used and as he states, "technically Dad, it is fried, but not deep fat fried" Thats ok by me.

boiling water safely with the size 7 (to avoid the breakage caused when you dump in a colander)!! The 7 fits in most pots despite the size. I like the size 5 for the frying pans and deep fryer to keep the breading intact or scooping seafood quickly. The wooden handles are long so you can avoid the hot steam and oil! No more carrying dangerously heavy hot pots to the sink. The strainers are sturdy with handles that are very secure. I don't store them in drawers. I like them handy in the counter tool caddy near the range...they clear the cabinets easily.
